Explicit comedy/joke/laughter vocabulary locates a large cluster, but many of the best jokes never announce themselves as jokes. The lexical footprint is therefore a floor, not a total.

Format collisionMoves a joke through podcast, memo, wiki, advertisement, wrestling promo, FAQ or technical note. The medium itself becomes the straight man.

The corpus repeatedly attacks its own dignity

A lofty claim rarely gets to retain ceremonial distance for long. Philosophy becomes customer service; revelation becomes a typo; a historical puzzle becomes two idiots arguing on a podcast; bodily catastrophe acquires an invoice; a mystical name gets pronounced wrong. This is not simply irreverence. It is a stress test: can the idea survive contact with embarrassment, commerce, appetite and stupidity?

The straight man is often the format

FAQ language, terms-of-service language, medical prose, production notes, public-radio framing, wiki entries, business plans and technical documentation are repeatedly asked to carry material they were not designed to carry. Their seriousness becomes comic because the apparatus keeps functioning after the content has gone feral.

Correction is a performance style

“Anyway,” wrong names, immediate reversals, parenthetical objections, edits performed in public and verbal stumbles are not merely roughness. The corpus often makes the failure to maintain a clean rhetorical line into comic timing. This is closely related to Infinite Playing and visible error, but it has its own timing and social effect.

Pain and comedy are adjacent rather than mutually exclusive

The quote pass already found that many highly portable lines place comedy one beat after pain. RETIRE HER, Richard, FutureSport, Space Flying Tiger and The Fused Man repeatedly let the funny and the awful share a room without asking one to certify the other.

Names are joke engines

King Baggot, Pagoda Benz, Sacred Arps, Scaled Alps corruptions, wrestling aliases, impossible product names and overbuilt institutions demonstrate a comic principle distinct from simple wordplay: a name accumulates pressure each time the world is forced to behave as though it were normal.

Anchor works

Scope: Calling a passage comic does not mean the represented injury, prejudice, violence or grief is unserious. Nor does authorial joking immunize a passage from being cruel, tedious or unsuccessful. This page maps mechanics, not excuses.
