Reference is material
JQD works do not use culture in one stable scholarly register. A source may be quoted carefully, misremembered on purpose, worn as a persona, rhymed into nonsense, used as a status joke, buried in a fake bibliography, or allowed to mutate into a new title. This page indexes source-attested contact; it does not turn every contact into an influence claim. See Reference Modes & Provenance.

The wrong philosopher
The Tell-All Heart attributes music as “unconscious counting” to Wittgenstein. Historical scholarship attributes the famous formulation to Leibniz. The source immediately adds, “Wittgenstein said a lot of shit.” The error therefore becomes unusually appropriate material for the corrupted canon.
McLuhan becomes McLaren
INTERIOR HORRORFILM: “Very Marshall McLaren of you.” Correction: “It’s Malcolm McLuhan.” Answer: “That’s what I said.” A canonical media theorist becomes a three-stage name failure.
Occult rocket gossip
A walk near JPL becomes “Jack Parsons Boom Biddy Bye-Bye. Get your gal snatched by L. Ron Hubbard.” Real Pasadena occult/aerospace history gets compressed to local trail chatter. Follow California Occult-Modernity.
Cagliostro refuses to stay dead
The eighteenth-century occult adventurer is not merely cited: his name becomes a JQD persona, a false doctor, a moon criminal, a Lost Eros resident and a disputed identity that sometimes insists it is Saint-Germain.
Brian Wilson becomes evidence
It's Mental Health Awareness Month Somewhere embeds an actual published Brian Wilson interview on auditory hallucinations, then returns immediately to voices, recording, death and Los Angeles.
Artaud rhymes with Baudrillard
Quantum Entendre asks exactly that, “if you’re stupid? / if you squint just right.” Intellectual history is temporarily reduced to phonetic material.
A motto with a false pedigree
Mundus vult decipi is recurrent enough to become a seal, while its historical attribution has itself repeatedly drifted. The provenance problem is almost too appropriate.
Source-attested reference index
The counts below are literal string matches across the 212-post reconciled primary-source corpus and are discovery aids only. A match can be a quotation, joke, title, character speech or bibliography entry. It is not a semantic influence score.

Musical genealogies
Several musical references rise above ordinary name-dropping because the source states the relation directly. Gil Scott-Heron is named the “Actual Primary Vocal Influence”; Saul Williams one of the “primary artistic influences”; Q-Tip’s “Vivrant Thing” the most obvious reference heard in “Abiogenesis.” These are separated from broader RIYL lists and critic-style resemblance claims in Musical Language & Genealogy.
King Baggot: the reference that looks invented
King Baggot is a useful control case for the atlas. He is not an inferred influence and not a fabricated citation: he is a real silent-film figure whose extraordinary old publicity is quoted because present unfamiliarity makes the truth feel implausible. The later appearance of Pseudobaggot then corrupts that historical reference into an original character.
