A cabinet of references that become more interesting after provenance checking.

1. Wittgenstein / Leibniz

JQD: “Wittgenstein said the joy of music’s unconscious counting.” Historical source: the famous hidden-arithmetic formulation is Leibniz. Why the wrong name matters →

2. Marshall McLaren / Malcolm McLuhan

Not one wrong name but two, with the correction itself incorrect.

3. Artaud / Baudrillard

Turn twentieth-century theory into a slant rhyme and ask whether the rhyme improves if you squint.

4. Cagliostro / Saint-Germain

Two historical adventurer-occultists with legends of secret knowledge and longevity become interchangeable masks inside the corpus.

5. Parsons / Hubbard

Rocketry, occultism and sexual betrayal become a one-line hiking joke beside JPL.

6. Brian Wilson

A sourced interview about voices becomes part of a work about voice, recording, perception and mental classification.

7. Borges

A direct quotation about writing neither for a minority nor “the Masses” appears inside a work that immediately turns back toward pornography, print culture and audience.

8. Bataille

The source pauses to congratulate the reader for pronouncing his name correctly, turning cultural capital into the first object of the joke.

9. “Joycean / Lynchian / Beckettian”

Three prestige adjectives are presented as things “they described me as,” immediately beside the Artaud/Baudrillard rhyme.

10. Hypersigil

A pre-existing comics/occult term becomes “hierogrammatical hypersigils” in ADVENT 1.6. The imported term is then retooled around word-shapes and recipient energy.

11. E-Prime

A real linguistic constraint becomes failed exercise, grammatical scan, percentage and then a prompt to imagine its useless evil inverse.

12. Simulacra

Baudrillard is named elsewhere; later “simulation and simulacra” turns up in fiction about a robot programmed to perform a mobster.

13. Mundus vult decipi

A motto about deception carries a deceptive attribution history of its own, then becomes one of the corpus's most durable seals. Follow the false pedigree →

Rule of the cabinet

The pleasure comes from discovering that the reference is neither simply “correct” nor “incorrect.” It has a job. Sometimes scholarship repairs a provenance chain; sometimes the broken provenance chain is itself the art object.

14. King Baggot

A real silent-film star advertised as nearly universally recognizable becomes the corpus's best demonstration that truth can sound faker than fiction. Historical Baggot → Baggot Brain → Pseudobaggot →

Shadow specimens

  1. Gurdjieff without Gurdjieff

“many I’ed” looked like a spectacular Fourth Way convergence until the author confirmed it was deliberate. This is the specimen that broke the old name-search assumption.

  2. Whitman as a question

“CAN ONE NOT CONTAIN MULTITUDES?” retains the source-shape while shifting the metaphysics.

  3. Nietzsche in fragments

amor fatigued · will to power · ETERNAL RETURNS · UBERMENSCH: one philosopher distributed across jokes and mutations without requiring a nameplate.

  4. Dasein thrown out

INSTRAFUCTURE: “Dasein. Out. Thrown.” Specialized vocabulary condensed into a three-beat exit.

  5. Marcuse reduced to one dimension

TERMINAL imports “One-dimensional man” as an exact title-concept.

  6. Agamben in two rooms

Homo Sacer in one work; “bare life” in another. The cluster matters more than either isolated hit.

  7. Abramović vacates the premises

“ISN’T THIS JUST MARINA ABRAMOVIC? / YES” later mutates The Artist Is Present into “The artist’s not present.”

  8. Cage by instrument

PREPARED PIANO: WALK 00001 carries a Cage lineage in its title/form; another work names Cage directly.

  9. The Residents: resemblance denied

The corpus looks superficially close to the anonymous multimedia band and then explicitly says it never cared for them. Negative lineage is evidence too.
