Music
Scaled Alps is both a recording/performance project and a recurring object inside the larger JQD corpus. Songs are announced, previewed and discussed inside texts that may themselves become part of the project's fictional world.
Release archaeology
The surviving public record now exposes a clearer sequence: the 2022 Cynical Ploy credits JQD as Cagliostro and an unidentified guitarist as Proteus III; 2024 produces Peak Arousal and Very High; 2026 produces Let the Alpine Play. The record sequence and the writing sequence continually leak into one another.
Personnel
Author confirmation defines the practical core as JQD + Anthony Percoco, with whoever else they are playing with. Specific sessions can therefore have additional personnel without changing the project’s core identity.
Late-2025 / 2026 Let the Alpine Play material credits JQD on voice, Percoco on piano/guitar, Steve Fishman on bass and Sean McCarthy (also credited as Joan Darwin) on drums, with recording/mixing by Stewart Tuttle at The Altar Studios in North Hollywood.
Proteus III, the early Scaled Alps 2.x guitarist identity, is author-confirmed as Anthony Percoco.
Musical grammar
Scaled Alps is deliberately easier to hear as a collision of musical grammars than as one genre. Jazz contributes elastic timing, ensemble intelligence and piano vocabulary; hip-hop contributes much of the lyric’s bar logic, compression and persona machinery; rock lyricism supplies refrain, image sequence, frontperson rhetoric and song-sized drama; funk/R&B supplies pocket and bodily repetition. The project’s unity is carried by voice, players, language and atmosphere rather than one genre surface.
Scaled Alps 2.x
The 2022 Scaled Alps 2.x sequence expands ordinary band promotion into performed identity and corporate fiction. JQD appears as Cagliostro; Proteus III and REPTILE are among the surrounding personae and institutions.
Let the Alpine Play
Let the Alpine Play is the project’s most densely documented cross-medium album object in the documented project history. The surviving project materials include the complete sixteen-track audio set, the 18-page Owner's Manual, track-level lyrics/use-cases, release documents and phrase migrations into and out of JQD’s writing.

Fictional and promotional apparatus
Scaled Alps promotion often behaves like another medium: fake histories, corporate wrappers, corrupted names, fan residue and fictional biographies can accumulate around a real band. These should not be mistaken for evidence that most mentions refer to a separate fictional act. Author confirmation is explicit that roughly all ordinary invocations mean the real JQD/Percoco project.
The name itself is especially unstable in transmission: Sacred Arps, Scalped Apes, Scrolled Apps, Scraped Ass and related corruptions can all remain attached to Scaled Alps without becoming independent canonical bands.

The EGOTERRORISM bridge
The boundary between JQD solo work and Scaled Alps is explicitly porous. “Would?”, the final track of EGOTERRORISM, credits Anthony Percoco with instrumentation and ends with the line “A SCALED ALPS PRODUCTION.” The credit makes Scaled Alps function not only as a band name but as a production identity capable of appearing inside a nominally solo JQD record.
