Art as use rather than aura

The work repeatedly attacks the idea that artistic value is secured by prestige, difficulty-signaling or institutional consecration. It asks instead what an object enables: attention, movement, feeling, social contact, memory, skill, another work or a useful reorganization of life.

The audience as operator

Readers and listeners are frequently addressed as editors, performers, players, customers, witnesses, collaborators or future misreaders. Reception is therefore treated as another stage of making rather than the terminal point at which the artist’s intention becomes fixed.

Work as work

Artistic labor is also shown as labor: unfinished demos, bad jobs, technical problems, release logistics, rehearsal, promotion, iteration, sales and the need to finish something. The romantic artist and the competent worker repeatedly collide inside the same figure.
