Explicit vocabulary
| Date | Work | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| 2021-12-05 | ADVENT 1.3: I DO. | The speaker describes a near-constant “ideasthetic FLOOD” that must be transmuted into something legible. |
| 2022-02-19 | POST-CRINGE | Music is asked to induce “synaesthetic interior experience”, physical reaction and proprioceptive awareness. |
| 2025-01-29 | Quantum Entendre | A reference apparatus explicitly identifies “synesthetic passages” and frequency/sonic phenomena. |
| 2026-01-23 | Talking to Myself | ideasthesia appears by name in a list that also includes clanging, dissociation and speculative music. |
| 2026-04-14 | Make It Sound Like Amphetamine Teeth | Mix communication is described as “synaesthesian nonsense”: a phrase such as “make it sound like amphetamine teeth” transfers an idea/body-image into sound engineering. |
From perception to production
The important recurrence is not simply “seeing colors when hearing music.” Cross-channel language repeatedly becomes a production method. Tempo can be described through color and temperament; a mix can be requested through teeth and amphetamine; movement can supply musical structure; perfume can supply narrative architecture; typography can behave like rhythm; clothing can act as a color field; a sonic proper noun can be chosen partly for its mouth-feel.
Xenochroma is the most durable named chromatic system. It begins in ADVENT as a fictive imaging condition for a vignette reel played in “varying tempos temperaments colors & voicings,” then migrates through Scaled Alps music, imaginary technology and institutional language. It therefore sits at an unusually clean sound/color/image junction.
Ideasthesia and meaning-triggered sensation
Ideasthesia is especially useful because much of the corpus begins with a concept and lets it recruit sensory form. A category, name or association can call up a color, material, rhythm, perfume, garment, gesture or visual composition. This differs from claiming that every association is a literal sensory concurrent. The recurring operation is: meaning becomes sensory instruction.
Perceptual flattening
Perceptual flattening names a related mechanism discovered in the reference corpus: objects with radically different histories can become momentarily adjacent because they answer the same cue—black/red, silhouette, gesture, texture, sound. That adjacency is perceptual, not moral or ontological equivalence.
Corpus-scale discovery floor
The following is a deliberately broad lexical scan of the frozen 212-work source archive. It is a navigation aid, not a claim that every hit is synaesthetic:
Particularly dense cross-channel works include RETIRE HER, Jumbo Dumbsludge, ADVENT 1.1, PREPARED PIANO: WALK 00001, Actual Attack Documentation and Quantum Entendre.
