Productive Refusal / Negative Form

Refusal, strikeout, obstruction, anti-form and destruction frequently generate another object or channel instead of simply ending one.

The negative act makes

No Music On, ANICONISM, SKLĒROS/ANTI-SKLĒROS, Fork It and Cremation Diamonds repeatedly turn a “no” into a procedure. An image may be refused so another relation to seeing becomes possible; an inherited system may be rejected so a branch can be forked; destruction can become the condition for another artifact.

Obstruction as form

Strikethroughs, blocked images, refusals to resolve and deliberately impossible instructions do not merely signal opposition. They change the path available to the receiver and therefore become compositional structures in their own right.
