Film names often behave like verbs, costumes or camera instructions
Nonsense Exegesis says “Godard jump-cuts.” That is a compact example of the whole screen field: the filmmaker is not the subject; Godard has become an editing operation available to prose.
VITALI & I gives a richer case. Leon Vitali, Stanley Kubrick, Eyes Wide Shut, Ligeti and Marcello Mastroianni occupy the same lived scene. “I’m Marcello fucking Mastroianni” is not film scholarship; it is an immediate temporary persona built out of sunglasses, pose, availability and cinematic memory.
INSTRUCTIONS NEVER TO DESTROY VIEW OR DUPLICATE makes David Lynch a reality-filter — perhaps Lynch is playing a prank — while its Walk of Fame layer throws Don Rickles, Clint Eastwood, Robin Williams, Anton LaVey, King Baggot and Mac Dre into one literal urban archive.
Los Angeles is already screen-mediated
.EXE: 150 People I Don’t Need, Described invokes the Bradbury Building through Blade Runner. Real architecture and its film image are not cleanly separable. Elsewhere Old Hollywood names — King Vidor, Garbo, Harlow, Monroe, Lupino, Valentino, Nazimova — act as a local historical atmosphere rather than a closed filmography.
Disemvowal is especially compressed: “I rap as King Vidor” immediately runs through star names and fashion names. The movie past is less a canon than an inventory of available faces, attitudes and sounds.
Television is infrastructure and residue
MTV, VH1 and Adult Swim recur as remembered media systems. MTV can be an actual logo subjected to generative-image misuse in NEW FORMS; VH1 can be cultural-format shorthand in Tell-All and Normative Collapse. These references preserve a broadcast/cable layer beneath the later platform layer mapped in Tools, Machines, Platforms.
