Not every wrong reference is the same kind of wrong
The content travels but the supposed author changes.
The source remains recognizable through mutation.
A title or maxim keeps its skeleton while reversing direction.
Names and phrases become their own descendants: Scaled Alps is the clearest running example.

Where corruption meets Hostile Encoding
Ordinary transmission loss and deliberate hostile encoding must remain separate. A reader may misremember because memory is imperfect; a text may also exploit a predictable completion, expectation or false correction. The wrong reading can then be part of the mechanism. This does not mean every typo or mistake is retrospectively intentional. The evidence question is whether the surrounding structure makes the error do work.
Relation to Quantum Entendre
Quantum Entendre and corruption chains are related without being identical. Quantum Entendre permits several meanings to remain available around the same signal. Corruption genealogy follows the signal historically as it changes shape. One is a problem of semantic superposition; the other is a problem of transmission. They often meet when a damaged phrase becomes more usable than its repaired source.
The repairman’s error
A reference wiki has an obvious temptation: find the “correct” source, correct the spelling, name the author, close the case. Here that can destroy evidence. The better practice is dual-entry: record the historical source accurately and preserve the corpus’s wrong version exactly enough to show what the error generated.
