Found object
The object is discovered in a filing cabinet bought at an estate sale. Molly and David speculate about how it entered the possessions of a mid-century costume professional while discussing the cover image and the dead owner’s house.
Why it matters
Its exaggerated title is comic, but “VOL. 17” and the production credit make it behave like one surviving unit from a much larger vanished catalog. It is a miniature example of JQD world-building through implied residue: one object makes an institution, audience and history appear just outside the frame.
