A Kid Named Lost in Death City calls Vernal Heights “low and grey,” “a dismal zone with an elevated name,” then builds it through engine emissions, robbery rates, powdered drugs, dark corners, adult businesses, industrial residue and municipal corruption. The description is less a skyline than a sensory and economic inventory.
The Players Lounge
The district’s best-fixed address is The Players Lounge, a dump bar at 651 Future St., marked by white cursive signage, a tattered awning and a faded polo pony.
Later social position
In Slain Hero, Vernal Heights is not only poor-zone scenery: Frasier Fussy can own a “big-ass nice-ass place” there and still complain that he is tired of the district. The later scene therefore complicates any simple class reading of the neighborhood.
