Time-filling as form

Ringside Retro Wrestling Wrap-Up is the small wrestling podcast hosted by X and Y in Jumbo Dumbsludge / NEVER FORGET. The source gives it sponsors, streams, a modest subscriber base and the economics of doing one's own editing because there is not enough money to hire an editor.

The podcast matters formally because the dialogue is full of material that would ordinarily be cut: coughing, failed jokes, repeated redirects, arguments over what can survive sponsor scrutiny and stretches of deliberate idiocy whose actual product is elapsed listener time. The work even describes the hosts as people who steal time for a living.

The archive trap

A retro wrestling show provides an ideal epistemic trap. X and Y's authority depends on trivia, deep recall and old-media residue, yet Tom Magee immediately exposes a hole in that authority. King Baggot then moves the same problem outside wrestling and into cultural memory itself.
