Family and early violence
Richard Rope grows inside a household dominated by Patty. Latasha is part of the family/social field that survives the period.
Alex’s house
Alex is tied to a second domestic system. His father Dan lies injured while the boys continue play; his mother Kim returns, discovers that help should have been called, and beats Alex while Richard is nearby. The scene makes childhood responsibility and adult violence inseparable.
School hierarchy
Ms. Kraft is the guidance-counselor figure Richard hates. Tommy runs Pure Player Entertainment and bullies Richard with Brad, his right-hand. These are not incidental school names: Pure Player turns adolescent hierarchy into a tiny media/business institution.
Tom Katsouris / DevilRazer
Tom Katsouris is a separate figure from Tommy. A 51-year-old apartment manager at Coventry Crossing, he meets Richard in the IRC channel #ANGELBOMBER, lies that he is a 23-year-old graduate student, and talks to the lonely Richard for hours under the handle DevilRazer. The internet does not merely mediate the relationship; it manufactures an age, body and social position for Tom.
Other named figures
Annette, Wally and Misty Anderson sit elsewhere in Richard’s social and remembered field. The ensemble’s usefulness is cumulative: Richard is repeatedly made to interpret people through partial information, names, gossip, screens and the consequences of somebody else’s house.
