Scope correction: earlier wiki builds let this principle become too totalizing. It remains useful for photography, classification, rules and patterning, but other structures should not be subordinated to it merely because they can be redescribed as “lines” and “fields.”

Visual form

In photography the structure can be literal: power lines across sky, railings through water, tile seams, curbs, frames and architecture dividing a more continuous field.

Language and classification

A name, diagnosis, genre, title or category can behave in the same way. It creates a useful boundary around something that may exceed it.

Rules and systems

Laws, technical standards and institutional categories are also lines. They can organize reality powerfully without necessarily describing every material event that occurs inside the field.

Pattern discovered and pattern imposed

The corpus does not settle whether meaningful patterns are found, projected or created in contact between perceiver and material. Quantum Entendre and SKLĒROS/ANTI-SKLĒROS can be read as deliberately incompatible positions on that problem.

The wiki itself

An encyclopedia is also a framing device: it turns a continuous body of work into names, pages and categories. The best use of the principle here is practical humility—the map should be useful without pretending that its divisions are the work itself.
