A hiking joke with a historical payload
In It's Mental Health Awareness Month Somewhere, an ordinary dog walk near JPL/NASA abruptly produces: “Jack Parsons Boom Biddy Bye-Bye. Get your gal snatched by L. Ron Hubbard.” The joke is compact enough to sound invented. It isn't.
Pasadena: rocketry beside ritual
Jack Parsons was a rocket pioneer associated with the institutional ancestry of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory while also participating deeply in occult religion. Caltech has repeatedly documented that double life. Caltech: Pasadena Babalon ↗
The Hubbard line similarly points to real biography: Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard were closely associated for a period, and Hubbard entered a relationship with Sara Northrup, Parsons's partner. The JQD line converts an already implausible Los Angeles/Pasadena history into local-gossip meter.
Why the episode matters
The episode is a perfect specimen of Civic Ballast: JPL, trail, horse shit and dog behavior keep the scene mundane while occult history leaks through the pavement. It also complicates any easy opposition between technology and magic. In Southern California, the rocket lab and the ritual chamber can belong to the same biography.
