101 is not a neologism count. It includes coinages, corruptions, rare inherited words and forms that still refuse a clean provenance.
The piece explains its own method
The work explicitly describes an earlier version called Protologia as being about “unadapted neologisms.” More importantly, it rejects novelty-for-novelty’s-sake and describes the practice as accepting forms that “fail pleasingly”. The local closing formula — Misunderslanging is its own logic — is practically a miniature ars poetica for the operation.

Why this one matters disproportionately
The piece brings several language systems together at once: learned diction, childish corruption, French and Spanish fragments, occult and literary vocabulary, vulgar morphology, speech errors, graphic segmentation, internal capitalization, folk etymology, fake etymology and machine-assisted insertion. The result is not simply lexical difficulty. It is language displaying its ability to mutate under pressure.

How extreme is it?
The 101 filtered forms occur across roughly 1,586 word-like tokens, or 63.7 filtered lexical outliers per thousand tokens. Among works of at least 1,000 tokens in the 212-publication snapshot, this is the highest density produced by the current conservative filter. Shorter pieces can score higher because a handful of mutations dominate a tiny denominator; Dagger sustains the pressure across a substantial text.
That distinction matters more than the raw rank. Dagger is not unusual because it happens to contain one spectacular invented word. It keeps changing the conditions of English sentence by sentence: archaism beside slang, Spanish beside faux-French, learned morphology beside vulgar compounding, names pulled apart by sound, misspellings retained as productive variants, and phrases temporarily behaving like individual lexical units.
