Scaled Alps have a distribution problem. This should be impossible, because Let the Alpine Play is distributed.
It is on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and YouTube. It exists as downloadable files and physical discs. One can type its title into databases. According to the contemporary use of the term, the work of distribution has already been accomplished.
James Quentin Devine disagrees. “Culture isn't being distributed — it's being warehoused.”
His distinction is blunt: uploading is depositing; distribution is movement.
The difference matters because the internet solved storage far more completely than it solved encounter. The warehouse can contain almost everything while an individual aisle remains effectively invisible.
This is why the group has begun openly treating its own publicity apparatus as part of the work. ALPINE INFORMATION a.k.a. A.I. is an AI-assisted campaign system whose public joke is that the band would rather automate the bureaucracy surrounding music than automate the music.
The campaign's job is not to manufacture consensus. It is to find selectors: DJs, writers, programmers, shops, filmmakers, bookers and other people capable of causing movement.
A platform can store a record. A person can pass it on.
